Samsung Galaxy Nexus versus iPhone 4S

A Head to head Review 

            We know that Apple and Samsung have long been rivals in the mobile computing world. In fact, the competition went out of the ordinary bounds and reached the high courts by suing each other due to patent and copyright violations seen in their products.

            But opinions aside, why don’t we pull the competition back from where it started and be objective in giving our judgments? Which makes better smartphones: Apple or Samsung? You can get cash for cell phones ! 

            To do this, let’s take the two top selling smartphones available and put them side by side- the iPhone 4S and the Samsung Galaxy Nexus. The former barely needs an introduction: It is the iteration to its predecessor, the iPhone 4, but is faster and is packed with a new operating system, enhanced camera, and an innovative, personal virtual assistant-Siri. Meanwhile, the Samsung Galaxy Nexus is freshly released from Google’s oven. It is also the first to sport Android’s 4.0 “Ice Cream Sandwich” operating system.

            Let’s zero in on the contrasting hardware, first: The iPhone 4S is noticeably identical to its older brother- the iPhone 4. It is still made of glass, metal, and a bit of plastic. On the other hand, Nexus sticks into the conventional and familiar Samsung feel. It has the same textured battery cover we see on other Android smartphones. Although the Galaxy Nexus is unmistakably Samsung, the improvements it made scaled things up a bit differently.

            The iPhone 4S still sports a 3.5-inch display screen. And this has remained unchanged since the official launch of the original iPhone in 2007, though it is remarkable that the resolution has greatly increased to 960x640 (the Retina Display) with 326 pixels per inch. But the Galaxy Nexus regales its screen capabilities with a 4.65-inch Super AMOLED display at 1280x720 resolution at 315 pixels per inch.        

            Both phones have dual core processors. And this means FAST. But the Galaxy Nexus has more RAM. Period. 

            The Galaxy Nexus pales in comparison to the Apple iPhone 4S as it only has a 5 MP camera while the latter graces its screen borders with an 8 MP camera. But the good thing with Galaxy Nexus is that it has a zero-lag shutter. Meaning, when you press to shoot, that’s the shot you will get. Another point is that a smartphone which has removable batteries wins.

            According to Android Central: “The home screens are as customizable as they've ever been. But Google's made it simpler to do so than in previous versions. Widgets continue to make the Android experience more useful than ever, and they're more easily found in the app drawer. We're over the moon about Google cleaning up how to make folders on the home screen -- like in iOS, you just drag one icon on top of another, and a folder is created. And you can name them whatever you want. Feature well borrowed.”
